Internet alliance formed; Pacific Century CyberWorks, Hikari join forces

Article Abstract:

Japanese Internet company Hikari Tsushin Inc., and Hong Kong-based Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd., invest in electronics giant Golden Power Holdings and plan to use the new company as vehicle for Internet services and other high technology investments in Asia. HIkari Tsushin International Ltd., is Golden Power Holdings' new name.

Australia's telecommunications giant Telstra Corporation Ltd.'s stock price dropped 3% last week, following news of Telstra's partnership with Hong Kong's Internet service provider Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. Telstra's stock price has since recovered.

Telstra Corp. and Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. have reached an agreement on a joint Internet and mobile telephone venture. However, both firms agreed to terms that were less than they hoped for.
