Midas touch

Article Abstract:

A lawyer has filed a request to have the assets of President Fidel Ramos frozen because he claims to have a document which proves that Ramos deposited $466 million of gold in a Swiss bank account. The gold is thought to be the hidden treasure of President Marcos. Ramos and the bank deny the accusation and claim that it is a conspiracy to tarnish his previously clean image. The speculation is damaging for Ramos, especially as elections are only eight months away. The story of the hidden gold has inspired numerous searches, including one by former President Corazon Aquino.
