Missile wars: the arms trade

Article Abstract:

The UK spent $6 billion from 1994-96 on military equipment made in the US and believed that the US would purchase advanced short-range air-to-air missiles from British Aerospace. Such a contract may not occur, and European companies are upset enough by the action, they may no longer buy US weapons.

And now, the hemisphere: the road to free trade throughout the hemisphere is strewn with obstacles - and no wild enthusiasm to get round them

Article Abstract:

Former Pres George Bush proposed a free trade area that would cover all of North, South and Latin America, but little has been done to see the idea to fruition. Pres Clinton has shown little interest in the region's economy beyond helping Mercosur consolidate, but will not fast-track talks.
