The number of subscribers to mobile phone networks is estimated to total 6.2 million by the end of 1996. Since 1992, the market has grown 378%, with 48% growth in 1996 alone. The market is dominated by Cellnet and Vodafone, although new entrants Mercury One 2 One and Orange have boosted competition. It is forecast that the number of subscribers will double by the year 2000.
