Models for multi-plant coordination

Article Abstract:

Production planning coordination of plants in a vertically integrated organization is evaluated. Coordination may be carried out either through integration at decision-making of different functions or by linking same-function decisions at different organizational levels. Production and inventory management issues for optimal organizational productivity include those concerning supply and production, production and distribution and inventory and distribution planning.

Multinational plant location as a game of timing

Article Abstract:

The multinational plant location problem is formulated as a game of timing wherein the decision to shift from exporting to domestic production and the timing of the subsequent plant investments are the key parameters. Other variables include competition, cost differentials between local goods and exported goods and investment costs. It is shown that lower costs help to determine which firms will lead and which will lag in overseas markets.

Models for the evaluation of routing and machine flexibility

Article Abstract:

The evaluation and design of production systems is made easier with the use of manufacturing system design evaluation models that show the economic implications of operational designs. Two models were developed to measure routing flexibility which have the properties of minimal path requirements with system reliability considerations. Machine flexibility measurement is based on the minimal set-up time for a given production quota.
