Opposition politicians are calling for Shin Kanemaru to step down from government and name other Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) members who have excepted bribes. Kanemaru is the grand old man of the LDP. The LDP has offered political reforms to regain some respect.

Yet another bribery scandal has surfaced in Japan, with as many as 100 politicians believed to have accepted payoffs from the parcel delivery company Sagawa Kyubin. Prime minister Kiichi Miyazawa has called for reforms to prevent further scandal.
