National firms make their mark

Article Abstract:

Some legal advisers predict mergers and acquisitions, in the UK, will remain buoyant in 1999, particularly in the energy industry. Others suggest the first three months of 1999 will not be very active although prospects will improve later in the year. Companies, such as Wragg and Co., are planning to expand due to increased business in 1998. Freshfields was the top legal adviser to financial institutions or companies involved in UK takeover deals, during 1998. They advised on 36 deals which were worth a total of 26.7 billion pounds sterling.
