Newspapers thriving despite Net threat

Article Abstract:

Most speakers at the Newspaper Assn of America's annual Research Conference held in Vancouver, British Columbia, from Jun 13 to 15, 1999, claimed that newspapers are still a competitive advertising medium. Other important topics discussed at the conference is the threat posed by the rise in Internet advertising and the lack of a common readership measurement system for identifying reader groups. It was also revealed during the meeting that increased size, color and graphics can boost both reader awareness and attention rather than page selection and positioning.
