Radio frequency tags on trial

Article Abstract:

British Airways has completed tests of its electronic bag tags at London Heathrow. The tests were conducted to assess its effectiveness in monitoring luggage. The tests involved over 75,000 smart bag tags which were attached to luggage and used to identify and track them as they moved along sortation systems. The electronic tags, called Tag-it and made by Texas Instruments, is laminated into a label and can be read when moving along a conveyor belt.

Satellite precision landings are operational at last

Article Abstract:

Continental Airlines has obtained permission from the Federal Aviation Administration to use Honeywell/Pelorus local area differential GPS (LADGPS) precision approach landing system. The approval has paved the way for the first fully-certified LADGPS precision approach landing by a commercial airline on Sep 21, 1998, at Newark International Airport. Honeywell said there were eight other major airlines interested in the system.

IER's winning ticket

Article Abstract:

IER was awarded a contract by the Emirates Group to provide printers and boarding gate readers to the new concourse and the expanded Terminal 1 at Dubai International airport. Emirates' electronic ticketing equipment have already been upgraded by products supplies by IER. IER has opened a service center in Dubai to serve its customers in the Middle East, east Africa and the Indian subcontinent.
