Nike raises the 'shoppertainment' bar

Article Abstract:

Nike, based in Beaverton, OR, officially opened on Aug. 1, 1998 the new Nike Toronto store. The 23,000-sq-ft store has two floors featuring apparel, footwear and accessories in 12 sports pavilions, including running, golf, basketball, all-conditions gear and hockey. Music, sound effects and interactive displays can be found in each pavilion. Visitors and customers will be treated to a shoppertainment, a blending of retail and technology to provide experience beyond traditional retail. The new Nike Toronto also features images and stories of Canadian sports heroes throughout the site.

Media attention on new business incubators has focused almost exclusively on their financial support. Yet it is easy to overlook the role these capitalists play in developing the marketing expertise and brand image of startup companies. Incubators are more effective for startups than their venture capital cousins because they know how to drive market, know all the marketing tactics required and have the contacts as well as the experience.

Xmas cyber shopping spree expected

Article Abstract:

Internet sales in Canada are expected to reach C$400 million-C$450 million during the 1999 holiday season, accounting for one-third of the estimated total of C$1.4 billion for Canadian e-commerce sales in 1999. The projected growth has spurred retailers to spruce up their online stores in anticipation of the jump in holiday sales. Among these retailers are Sears Canada, CDPlus.com and Chapters Online Inc.
