Nomad's land

Article Abstract:

Frederick Taylor, an American engineer, adapted factory floor time and motion studies to suit the emerging early 20th century office environment, with the aim of increasing efficiency and improving productivity. Although the workplace became more like a prison, Taylor's ideas fuelled a school of 20th century organizational analysis. The new Ministry of Defence Procurement Executive headquarters has open plan offices and space is allocated according to need rather than rank. Other public sector bodies are following the lead of the MoD, and the offices of the future are likely to be more domestic and comfortable.

Land feud: farmers oppose return of park to Aborigines

Article Abstract:

The Mungo National Park in Australia is being contested for by sheep farmers in thearea and Aborigines due to the introduction in the state parliament of a new legislation regarding the ownership of the park. Recent archeological finds in the park especially at the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Region at the park's center prove the historical occupancy of indigenous people in the area. If the state parliament votes in favor of the Aborigines, the park will be handed overto them and the government will just then have to pay rent for the continuous use of the park.

A land of extremes

Article Abstract:

The Birhor tribe in India belong in the same Austro-Asiatic language group as the Ho, Santhal or Munda tribes. They are nomadic moving mainly around Palamau, and their declining population is thought to be just 2,000, due to the destruction of the forest on which they depend. Malnutrition is rife and there are high infant mortality rates, however crime is virtually unheard of.
