Nomura's shares decline, but analysts advise caution

Article Abstract:

Nomura Securities shares have recently plummeted to a fraction of their price, making it seem like a good buy. Although Nomura is the largest brokerage firm in Japan, its shares' closing price on Feb 19, 1999 was 10% lower than that of its smaller sister company, Kokusai Securities. This development has prompted analysts to warn against investing in Nomura, despite optimistic views that the firm need only sell its 30% stake in Kokusai to recoup the losses it underwent following the slump of Russia's financial markets and the depression of its collateralized mortgage-backed securities in the US.
