Oman plans toll roads

Article Abstract:

A southern expressway between Qurum and Bait al-Barka will be one of three main toll roads planned for Oman, with investment totalling around $161 million. The roads will be constructed on a build-own-operate (BOO). There are also plans for a BOO project to develop various facilities for an underground water aquifer at Masarrat, Oman. The planned privatisation of state-owned General Telecommunications Organisation, which is set to take place in 1997, is also discussed.

Oman invites bids for anew private power project

Article Abstract:

Oman may invite bids for a private build-operate-transfer (BOT) power project. Potential bidders have been put off by the lack of government guarantees. The government will build the plant as a state scheme if there is insufficient private interest. There is also progress on the 200mw power project for Salalah, and agreements for the Muscat wastewater system concession are expected to be signed soon.
