Montreal, Canada-based Stria Communications Inc.'s The PeachTree site at the World Wide Web portion of the Internet allows consumers to conduct their grocery shopping online. The Internet site enables subscribers and members to lists their desired grocery items in the Web, which will thereafter be sent to an online retailer. The company, which was established by Greg Kalinin and three other partners, maintains that the online grocery shopping service poses a very creditable potential for growth.

Direct mail marketing, an industry valued at C$2.2 billion in Canada alone, is expected to receive an additional boost in effectiveness from advances in database marketing. Industry practitioners agree that direct mailings should project an image of intelligence while trying to connect with people through humor.

iVision of Montreal, Quebec, has already distributed 250,000 of its Camplus cards to students in Quebec province and is planning to extend its reach into Ontario by releasing another quarter-million cards. The marketing company, founded by Philippe Racine and David Kassar, is taking advantage of its ability to understand the buying behavior of the so- called Generation Next.
