Article Abstract:

Recent breakthroughs in technology have made possible the mass production of flat screen displays for televisions and monitors. Asian companies such as AU Optronics Corp. are building factories as quickly as possible to meet demand . Revenue from flat screens is expected to reach beyond $60 billiion in 2004.

Samsung aims to boost spending after reporting 11% drop in profit

In an effort to gain market share, Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. is planning increased spending and output. Second quarter profits declined 11% due to weaker cell phone sales and semiconductor margins. However, the company's LCD business remained quite strong.
