Oprah in trouble

Article Abstract:

TV talkshow host Oprah Winfrey is involved in an Agricultural Product Disparagement case, the first of its kind in the US, against cattle farmer Paul Engler. The case promises to provide insights on whether farmers should enjoy libel laws not found in other industries. The case would also bring to light freedom of speech and its interpretation. The case supposedly regards Ms. Winfrey's statements about BSE that have allegedly cost Mr. Engler $6.7 million in sales.

Ready for your close-up, Mr Sharpton?

Article Abstract:

Al Sharpton has been found guilty of making seven defamatory statements in the late 1980s about Steven Pagones, a prosecutor in New York, NY. Sharpton alleged that Pagones was one of a gang of white men who raped a young black girl, Tawana Brawley. Pagones is now seeking $395 million in damages. Sharpton has responded vigorously to his conviction, claiming that he has no money and that the verdict will be overturned very quickly.
