Optimal access control for broadband services: stochastic knapsack with advance information

Article Abstract:

The problem of determining the proper call acceptance policy in broadband communication systems to optimize the long-run average revenue per unit time generated by the accepted calls is analyzed. Threshold-type policies that employ the known duration of arriving calls and the current link status are compared. Results show that the interpretable analytical findings for K = 1 can also used for K > 1 using the complete partitioning method. Stochastic optimization methods can be used to calculate optimal thresholds in the general case.

Lead-time variability reduction in stochastic inventory models

Article Abstract:

The feasibility of investing in lead-time variance reduction and setup cost reduction when using the Economic Order Quantity model in inventory management is investigated. Results indicate that substantive pairs can be made when simultaneous investments in the reduction of setup cost and lead-time variance are made.

Counting your customers: compounding customer's in-store decisions, interpurchase time and repurchasing behavior

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the use of stochastic models to study the purchasing decisions of consumers. Issues of interpurchase time, in-store decisions and repurchasing behavior are discussed.
