Orange Brand Licensed To Hutchinson Telecom

Article Abstract:

In an effort to increase its name recognition internationally, Organ Group PLC licensed its name to two Hong Kong-based digital mobile networks operated by Hutchinson Telecom. Hutchinson Whampoa Ltd., owns Hutchinson Telecom and 49 percent of Orange. Orange also has plans to license its name in Europe, in an effort to make using its phones much easier in international settings. As part of this effort, customers from Hong Kong can place a directory assistance call in the U.K. and be connected to a Cantonese-speaking operator.

Telewest says pretax loss widened 88% in 1st half

Article Abstract:

Telewest Communications PLC announced that its pretax losses for the first-half of 1999 widened by 88%. The company however, is predicting that its losses will peak by 2000. Telewest, a cable television operator based in Britain, posted 273.4 million pound sterling in pretax losses. During the same period in 1998, the company posted 145.1 million pound sterling in losses.

Gene therapy used to successfully treat 2 patients

Two cases of chronic granulomatous disease have been cured by new advances in gene therapy. The rare but deadly immune system disease is more commonly found in men and makes patients vulnerable to infections.
