Outlining the economics of corruption in Asia

Article Abstract:

Any form of political corruption should not be tolerated on moral grounds. Any government should ensure that it governs and serves the whole citizenry. However, corrupt practices, especially in developing countries, can sometimes stimulate economic growth. This is exemplified when corruption negate inappropriate and antidevelopment government policies. Corruption also has the potential to circumvent inefficient bureaucracies.

Is Thailand's transparency goal fading to black?

Article Abstract:

Thailand's Constitutional Court has acquitted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra of corruption charges, which indicates that transparency may not be achieved in Thai politics and business. Leaders who push for reforms are being dismissed, and Thailand's economy is faltering. Interest rates are over 5%, and Thailand could fall into a debt trap.
