PLDT aims to buy time for cellular-phone unit

Article Abstract:

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) announced that it would agree to infuse two billion pesos ($51.4 million) into its struggling cellular-telephone unit, Pilipino Telephone Corp. (Piltel). The investment is an attempt by PLDT to buy time for the unit's rehabilitation. Manuel Pangilinan, the president of PLDT, said that the company would increase its equity in the unit providing that creditors extend Piltel's debt repayment period.

Creditors look set to back debt plan for Thai Telephone

Thai Telephone and Telecommunications PCL's creditors are expected to approve a debt restructuring plan for the company. Thai Telephone has debts worth 44.4 billion baht (1.14 billion euros).
