PMM Ventures

Article Abstract:

PPM Ventures is planning to extend its operation into China, Vietnam and India and is already very active in both Germany and France. It is a major equity finance provider, in the UK, and has over 390 million pounds sterling invested in some 60 companies. The company tends to concentrate on special types of deals rather than a quantity of transactions. PPM Ventures purchased Pubmaster, in partnership with NatWest Ventures, for a sum of 171 million pounds sterling. PPM Ventures was part of Prudential Portfolio Managers, the investment division of the Prudential life insurance company.

Legal and General Ventures

Article Abstract:

Legal and General Ventures (LGV) is expanding it operations into Europe. LGV led the 46 million IR pounds sterling management buyout of Cable Management Ireland, in early 1997. LGV offers clients mezzanine and equity facilities. The management of LGV look for deals around 50-200 million pounds sterling. The company has found the UK market increasingly competitive particularly with much of the business being placed for auction. LGV has offices in France and has joined with Candover, an investment trust, to operate in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

'Do it all' with leveraged build-ups

Article Abstract:

The Do It All chain of DIY outlets was sold by Boots to a management team at Focus DIY backed by Duke Street Capital in August 1998. Duke Street Capital is already an investor in Focus and it provided equity to the tune of 25 million pounds sterling in the 68 million pound deal. Senior debt was provided by Societe Generale and the Bank of Scotland, while mezzanine finance was supplied by Intermediate Capital Group.
