Parcels and passengers

Article Abstract:

The aircraft manufacturing industry is restricted by airline specifications to have a standard design for both freight and passenger airplanes. Aircraft are designed to accommodate passengers first and then to allow for cargo space either on the upper deck or the belly. The creation of the Boeing 747 Combi seems to satisfy both passenger and cargo space needs. In view of the air-freight industry growth, there is a subsequent demand for more freight-oriented aircraft to serve the ever-increasing needs of a changing market.

Uncle Sam intervenes: Hanoi falls foul of US aircraft embargo

Article Abstract:

The US government maintains an embargo on the utilization by Vietnam of American-made aircraft or aircraft with equipment supplied by American firms. Under the embargo, sale of aircraft to Vietnam or its control of American aircraft is prohibited. Some airlines are permitted to have mutual services with Vietnam, such as the arrangements of Malaysia Airlines and Philippine Airlines with Vietnam Airlines. Two airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways and JES Air have been charged by the US government of violating the embargo.

Freedom to fly

Article Abstract:

US negotiators are pressuring Hong Kong aviation officials into providing fifth freedom rights to American airlines. Fifth freedoms allow airlines to ferry passengers beyond or within their point of departure and final destination. US officials contend that granting fifth freedom rights would enhance airline competitiveness in the region. Hong Kong officials counter that non-US airlines are prevented from picking up passengers between points inside the US.
