Article Abstract:

Remuneration of an employee that varies across individuals according to their characteristics, their industries and occupations is mentioned. The survey conducted by New Earnings Survey (NSE) revealed a fair degree of inequality in earnings across individuals and the differences reflected the skill and abilities of workers, and the willingness of the firm to motivate the staff using financial reward.

UK productivity is behind that of other leading economies. In 1999, the UK was 15th for overall competitiveness and 45th for labor productivity, according to the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development's World Competitivenes 'Scorecard'. Some recent consultative reports say that UK managers are at fault for the low productivity.
