Article Abstract:

Bavaria is enhancing its range of special beers, a segment where the Dutch brewer wants to grow bigger in France. In 1997, the group posted a turnover of FFr 146mn in this country. At the group level, the turnover reached FFr 2bn, up 8.5% over 1996 while the net profit rose 27% to FFr 117mn in 1997. The group, which took over the only Trappist beer in the Netherlands in April 1997 (La Trappe, which produced 120,000 hl in 1997), sold 4.5mn hl of beer that year. Bavaria is the second-largest brewer in the Netherlands.
