Article Abstract:

Chinese airlines have turned their attention from improvements in safety records to customer service in an attempt to garner market share. Until the 1980s civil airlines in China were administered by military authorities. Similar to improvements in safety standards, cabin service standards are designed to increase business both in overseas travel and on domestic routes.

Article Abstract:

Tourist visiting China from South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia are expected to decline by 40-50% China's domestic airlines have reduced fares by up to 40%. Hoteliers with a high proportion of business guests are faring better than resort properties. The hotel industry is becoming more competitive, new construction is continuing and rates are being forced down.

The star attraction

Article Abstract:

Hotels in major Chinese cities have improved dramatically in the last 10 years, but outside the cities it is hard to satisfy Western visitors. The star rating system launched by the China National Tourist Association (CNTA) does not reflect international standards, but rather the business connections.
