Pension funds in U.S., U.K. to join forces

Article Abstract:

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (Calpers) and Hermes Pensions Management Ltd. announced they are forming a strategic alliance that will call on underperforming companies in the US and the UK to improve the management of their entities. Calpers is the largest public pension fund in the US, while Hermes is the largest pension fund manager in the UK. The alliance could increase both funds' already strong influence in US and UK companies. Calpers and Hermes assert that their alliance is the first of its type in history.

Standing by CEO, GM's board also starts to take heat

General Motors Corp. of the United States has had a tough year with stock trading near record lows, debt ranking at junk and the automobile industry has lost $6 billion worldwide in the past nine months. Although the automobile company is underperforming the Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner is still backed by the Board of Directors. Kirk Kerkorian a Las Vegas investor who owns 9.9 percent of General Motor's stock is seeking a seat on the Board of Directors.

Korn/Ferry cuts signal trouble for recruiters
