People: dealing with complexity

Article Abstract:

Haworth Tompkins Founders and Architects Graham Haworth and Steve Tompkins have worked together for 10 years since starting their architectural practice. They point out they wish to keep working on a range of subjects. Tompkins and Haworth both have young families and also spend time on their interests outside of work. They maintain it is very important to have some time away from their work as architects. The company has designed 60 million pounds sterling worth of buildings since it was set up in 1991.

State of the industry

Article Abstract:

The UK construction industry is currently showing very variable performance, both between sectors and between different regions of the country. The construction industry continues to reflect the overall state of the economy, and will not flourish if the economy weakens. It is not anticipated that a full-scale recession will emerge, but prospects for the construction industry are generally not very favourable. Similarly, architectural firms are seeing mixed performance.
