PepsiCo's earnings climb 12 percent, led by gains in sales, pricing

PepsiCo Inc. of the United States posted a 12 percent increase in first quarter profit to $1.02 billion from $912 million last year. Revenues at the soft drinks giant were effected by higher costs for raw materials and energy, offset by market share gains.

Georgia-Pacific posts losses amid energy woes

Georgia-Pacific Corp. posted a $187 million (202.4 million euros) net loss for the 2000 fourth-quarter. The company posted the loss due to a write-down of tissue plants being divested and to the shutdown of a paper mill in Michigan.
