Pharmacia says drug gets U.S. approval

Article Abstract:

Pharmacia & Upjohn Inc. announced that its new Vestra antidepressant drug has been given preliminary approval by the US Food and Drug Administration. Vestra is the first selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors that increase the amount of nerve signal transmitting chemical in synapses which are located in between brain cells. The drug is known generically as reboxetine.

Merck, Others Plan More Cuts In AIDS-Drug Prices to Africa

White House Station, NJ-based Merck and Company Inc. and other major pharmaceutical companies will drastically lower the costs on drugs used to treat persons with HIV/AIDS. The drug makers, which have been heavily criticized by health care organizations and activists, were praised by the World Health Organization.

Bristol-Myers finds spending money is difficult in Africa

Article Abstract:

Bristol-Myers will donate $100 million to fight AIDS in 5 southern Africa nations from 2000-2004. There are several restrictions on the donations which is making it difficult for individuals receiving the funds to spend the funds where the individuals feel there is a need.
