Philips disconnects handset unit

Philips Electronics NV announced that it would restructure its handset unit, which has been unprofitable, and assume a charge worth 300 million euros. The company also said it would outsource the majority of its handset production to its China joint-venture.

Philips to revamp its consumer unit

Philips Electronics N.V. will conduct a revamping of its consumer electronics unit. The revamp is intended to raise 400 million euros in cost savings a year by the 2005 year.
