In the last several weeks the Asian exporters have faced severe problems at the California port on account of dockside labor shortage and constraints in inland transport. In order to overcome the problems, the exporters have tried methods like using faster carriers or diverting cargos to less frequented ports and even sent their goods by air as the merchandise is for Christmas season. The carrier companies on the other hand are contemplating a tentative congestion surcharge on their cargo to mitigate their losses.
