Polish bank president lists concerns over planned retirement system

Article Abstract:

Bank Handlowy President Cezary Stypulkowski has pointed out that there are several important concerns for the new Polish retirement system. Stypulkowski stated that these concerns include investor security, transparency and the development of the banks' retail networks. Stypulkowski emphasized the importance of both investor security and transparency to the success of the new retirement system. Stypulkowski also stated that the years 1999 and 2000 will be important for the Poilsh banking industry's effort to establish networks.

Mittal will sell Polish steel mill to meet E.U. terms

Article Abstract:

Mittal Steel Company N.V. of the Netherlands is to divest its Huta Bankowa of Poland subsidiary to Alchemia S.A. The deal is part of an agreement with the European Union that will meet antitrust regulations to clear the way for its Arcelor S.A. of Luxembourg acquisition. Huta Bankowa posted earnings of 81 million Euros ($105 million) in 2005.

Balcerowicz named candidate to lead Polish Central Bank

Article Abstract:

Leszek Balcerowicz has been appointed as a candidate to head the central bank of Poland. Balcerowicz was responsible for instituting free-market reforms in Poland during the early 1990's.
