Productivity in hospital kitchens

Article Abstract:

National Health hospitals of different types and sizes in the UK were surveyed to determine the productivity of hospital food production systems, in which productivity is measured as the quotient of the total input over the total output. Regression analysis of the productivity measurements identified three groups of hospitals based of the use of pre-prepared vegetables and no cook-chill systems. The high interest in productivity among the hospitals was attributed to the decline in budgets in the public sector.

Retail buying in the United Kingdom

Article Abstract:

The nature of the buyers' job in the UK retailing sector is discussed and several issues confronting these personnel are examined. Buyers are found to be occupying a strategic position within a retail company, affecting the product inventory and pricing processes. Some even become involved in product devlopment as shown by the growth of own labels in the UK. However, buyers are not regarded as strategists or marketers since they only implement a marketing directive developed elsewhere in the retail firm.

Hospital retailing

Article Abstract:

Hospital retailing of products unrelated to health care is increasingly becoming a lucrative income-generation venture. Hospitals are urged to employ commercial advisers or seek expert advice to maximize the vast income potential of such ventures. Retailers believe that there is a bright future for the business. Customers will appreciate the convenience of shopping facilities in hospitals as long as the venture does not become commercialized.
