Public is still ignorant about ISA

Article Abstract:

A survey by Consensus Research International reveals that 84% of the people in the new Individual Savings Account target market have a very poor understanding of ISAs. Only 9% of people surveyed had read about ISAs while 19% were aware of their existence but knew few details. The ISAs have some way to go before they are accepted by savers. Most surveyed said they would prefer to save with a building society. Current investors were interested in the shares investment element of ISAs while first time investors favoured the cash account element.

Half UK adults aware of ISAs

Article Abstract:

Midland Bank's survey of 2,000 UK adults has revealed that nearly 50% are aware that individual savings accounts (ISAs) will succeed PEPs and Tessas from 1999, noting that in general its findings indicated confidence in IFAs, even though just one third of those quizzed indicated a desire to invest in this type of account. Midland Bank described as encouraging the fact that such a high proportion of people are aware of changes in the savings markets.
