Publicising planning applications; new rules now in force

Article Abstract:

Changes in the law regarding the publicising of planning applications should be noted by architects. All applications must be publicised by site notices of neighbour notification. Additionally, several classes of development must also be publicised in newspaper advertisements. The responsibility for the publicising of applications falls on the local planning authority but applicants should ensure delays are minimised by agreeing on the necessary procedures before an application is submitted. The new regulations came into force in Jul 1992.

Modernising planning

Article Abstract:

A reduction in the number of government levels involved in planning application procedures would reduce the time needed to push applications through, although several attempts by the UK government to shorten the application systems appear to have failed. A total restructuring of the town and country planning systems is required to bring a more modern approach to planning in the next century.
