QR comes of age

Article Abstract:

Quantum Magnetics continues to work on Quadropole Resonance (QR) technology for civil aviation applications, in particular to develop a handheld QR wand and a walkthrough QR portal. analysts agree that the US$2.3 million additional funding for the effort received in Mar 2000, from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Technical Services Working Group is mere seed money designed to keep the projects ticking over while Quantum puts maximum effort into developing QR for military mine clearance operations.

Regionals increase market share

Article Abstract:

BAA PLC forecasts the traffic for three of its airports in the southeast at London Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. BAA is facing the problems of matching capacity with traffic growth. The company forecasts that by the year 2000 total passenger traffic will reach 99.3 million, and 126.9 million by 2008. BAA's capital expenditure forecast indicates it will need to spend nearly $8.2 billion over the next 10 years at the three airports.

UK security under threat

Article Abstract:

Inspections at major airports by the UK Dept of Transport, Environment and the Regions have yielded disappointing results. Manchester and London Stansted were among a number of airports singled out for criticism due to operator inability to detect explosives and handguns taken through security checkpoints by the inspectors. The department has decided to implement a Threat Image Protection and TRACE program countrywide
