Raptors to play on Carter popularity

Article Abstract:

The Toronto Raptors professional basketball team is banking on the surging popularity of rookie Vince Carter to increase ticket sales. Carter, doing one of his now-famous aerial shots, is featured prominently in season ticket ads placed by the Toronto, Ontario-based basketball club on the 'Toronto Star' and the 'National Post.' Matt Aker, supervisor for publications and information for the Raptors, say that the ball club's advertisements in the future would revolve around Carter. He has also signed up with Kellogg's to promote its new Vector sports-nutrition cereal.

Nike looking for Olympic attention

Article Abstract:

Nike Canada Ltd is hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the forthcoming 2000 Olympic Summer Games through its ongoing 'empowering women' advertising campaign. The third phase of the campaign will consist of two 30-second television commercials featuring Olympic contenders, namely, mountain biker Alison Sydor and rower Emma Robinson. The spots will be aired in Apr 2000 and run for five weeks. They do not openly associate the two women athletes with the Olympics, but Nike is hoping that the coverage of these two sportswomen will rub off on its brand.

Adidas steps up Canadian marketing

Adidas Canada Ltd steps up its marketing in Canada with the launch of several ads promoting the Canadian Football League (CFL) and reminding children that it is back-to-school time. The Concord, Ontario-based company has come up with two 30-second TV commercials supporting the CFL. The company has also partnered with Sportchek athletic stores to launch a 10-week ad campaign promoting the company's `Equipment' clothing line.
