Ready for inspection

Article Abstract:

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the main international organisation tasked with monitoring and reporting suspected nuclear weapons programs. Countries who signed the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty conceived this body and 110 nations are IAEA members, including some who did not sign the non-proliferation treaty. The IAEA however, does not have adequate investigatory powers which make it easy for nations to easily hide any nuclear weapons build-up. A 1995 review is expected to provide more powers to IAEA.

Border bonanza: smuggling case raises fears of rising corruption

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong Customs officials were implicated in a prominent smuggling crackdown which intensified apprehensions about the rampant incidence of civil service corruption in the colony. Checking for bombs: doubts persist over Pyongyang's nuclear plans

Article Abstract:

The sudden effort of North Korea to open its nuclear program to international scrutiny after years of secrecy has only served to heighten rather than dispel speculations of nuclear arms development. North Korea's disclosure of its nuclear capabilities are contained in a 100-page report to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Besides its agreement to have the IAEA inspect itsnuclear facilities, North Korea has also agreed to bilateral nuclear inspections with South Korea.
