The UK airline industry may be suffering but it should be able to ride out the recession in the travel sector and to start recovering by mid-2002. British Airways has forecast a loss, but it still has plenty of cash, while low-cost airlines such as easyJet and Ryanair are buoyant.

Uncharted airspace

Article Abstract:

The world airline sector is facing its greatest ever crisis following the Sep 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the US. Airlines were already ailing, and are now being forced to cut routes or jobs. Some could even go under. Tighter security measures will also hit hard.

The world's airlines have been badly hit by the terrorist attacks on the US and by recession, and they are having to become leaner operations. Airlines may also have to confront suppliers and unions over restrictive practices.
