Recession's silver lining: top-notch people ready for hire
Article Abstract:
Management consultants report that quality personnel are easier to find in the labor market as a result of the recession and the subsequent layoffs in Hong Kong corporations. The former last in, first out policy has been replaced by the lean and mean management style of US international business enterprises. The number of redundancies in Hong Kong corporations is being reduced by eliminating people at the senior management level position which makes them eligible for other jobs in other companies.

Article Abstract:
Performance appraisals are increasingly becoming the wave of the future for businesses throughout Asia. The innovative strategy of tying up the salaries of employees with their performance is new in Asia where the traditional practice of promotions is based on seniority. A survey conducted among multinational companies operating in Asia revealed that 26% of the total 70 firms have already introduced the practice of 360-degree appraisals since 1998.
