Reed ends CEO search with Davis appointment

Article Abstract:

Crispin Davis has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Reed Elsevier PLC, an Anglo-Dutch publisher. Mr. Davis's appointment will go into effect on September 1, 1999. The fifty-year old Mr. Davis is a well-known British marketing executive who formerly worked with Procter & Gamble Co. He is presently Aegis Group PLC's chief executive. Investors are hoping that Mr. Davis will turn Reed Elsevier's fortunes around.

Shareholders Slowly Gain More Clout, But Face Battles Over Executive Pay. French companies try to limit shareholder rights

While companies in the Netherlands are giving shareholders more rights, some French companies including Vivendi are limiting these rights to only those holding more than 2 percent of stock. The move is seen by some as a way to protect management.

Naples Winter Wine Festival of Florida raised $7.67 million for charity, besting The Napa Valley Wine Auction of California, this year. The Napa Valley Wine Auction was the first exclusive charity wine fund raiser and raised $5.3 million.
