Rock attacks terms of PoW-backed Orange competition

Article Abstract:

Orange, a mobile phone network company, is aiming to develop a competition to design new Millennium Landmark mobile telecommunications masts, but it wants entrants to sign away any intellectual property rights. The company wants to increase the number of its masts to 10,000 by 2001. President of RIBA, David Rock, is critical of the copyright situation and will ask Orange to alter its terms and conditions. The brief for the competition calls on entrants to produce environmentally sensitive, socially useful and culturally expressive solutions to the need for masts.

Kelly gets to grips with the ARB's 'spinning plates'

Article Abstract:

The UK Architects Registration Board (ARB) chairwoman Barbara Kelly holds positions on several other Board memberships, including some in Scotland. The ARB is in the process of reviewing disciplinary procedures and educational regulations governing architectural practices. Architects should be proud to have an independent governing body which takes a role in society to promote social responsibility, according to Kelly, who also feels the public should be better informed about the remit of the ARB.
