SGL Carbon shares drop on warning

Article Abstract:

SGL Carbon AG shares fell 11% following announcement that its 1998 profits could fail to deliver a dividend to its shareholders. Shares of the German-based company, which produces graphite and carbon products, dropped 15.50 marks to 120 marks after SGL said that an additional fourth quarter charge could likely jeopardize its ability to deliver a dividend to its shareholders. The charge will come from SGL's plan to close a graphite electrode plant by the end of 1998. However, analysts assured they will not reduce their "neutral" ratings on the specialty stock. Analysts are confident that SGL's restructuring strategy will result in better earnings in 1999.
