SOFTWARE COS' NET ZOOMS BUT MARKET WANTS MORE
Article Abstract:
The prices of the scrips of software companies declined marginally after the announcement of the first half 1998-99 results. The price of the Infosys Technologies (IT) scrip fell from Rs2,323.50 on October 10, 1998, to Rs2,308 on October 12, 1998. The scrip price of Satyam Computers (SC) was Rs560.25 (Rs594.25) and that of BFL Software (BS) Rs549.25 (Rs555.25). IT posted sales growth of 103 percent, SC 153 percent and BS 91 percent in the first half of 1998-99. BS gets 25 percent of its revenues from Y2K projects and SC 28.52 percent. IT has gained Rs13.50 crore from the depreciation of the value of the rupee against the US dollar. (rk)

Research houses have predicted a consensus profit of Rs715.7 crore for Hindustan Lever Ltd in 1998-99 against its net profit of Rs546.21 crore in 1997-98. Birla Marlin Securities has predicted that the company will give an earnings per share (EPS) of Rs35.7 in 1998-99 while Cazenove India has predicted an EPS of Rs26.1. Lloyds Securities has forecast an EPS of Rs36.3 while Warburg Dillon Read of the US has predicted an EPS of Rs36.5 in 1998-99. (khr)
