Salt Lake City's new image

Article Abstract:

Salt Lake City, Utah, has seen economic growth since the late 1980s, and has benefited from becoming the hub of Delta Air Lines. Good transportation and the computer revolution have helped the city to attract investment, which is also attracted by an educated and cheap leabor force. The city's growth is slowing, and winter sports are seen as a way to help the economy to continue to grow, hence the bid to host the Winter Olympics. There is concern that surplus hotels rooms could be created, and that a construction boom could turn to bust. The city does, however, benefit from being the center of the Mormon Church.

The Moonies have landed

Article Abstract:

Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church, aims to set up New Hope, a community in Brazil where he has purchased 800 sq km of farmland. The membership of the church has dropped to some 3,000 following problems such as the jailing of Moon for tax offenses. The organization owns a number of Latin American newspapers, a hotel and bank in Uruguay, and land in Brazil and Argentina. The organization has ceased to use the term 'church' and focuses on world peace and family values rather than spiritual issues.

A collection for what?

Article Abstract:

Evidence against National Baptist Convention (NBC) president, Rev Henry Lyons, is being heard in Florida. It is alleged that he funded a lavish lifestyle by channeling contributions into bank accounts kept secret. Donations came from charities and corporations. Lyons' lawyers have sought to present him as honest and having been hit by failed business projects. They claim that companies sought to propfit from Lyons' ministry, and that the white media is seeking to attack a black man.
