Satelindo turns to U.S.-made rocket to launch its newest Palapa satellite

Article Abstract:

PT Satelindo has contracted Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Martin Marietta Commercial Launch Services Inc. to launch its first Palapa C satellite in Jan. 1996. The company chose Lockheed Martin's $92 million Atlas rocket system after its previous contractor, Arianespace, failed to launch the satellite twice. Meanwhile, analysts believe that Lockheed Martin will most likely need only eight months, as compared to the standard 12-month preparation period, to set-up the launch.

Satelindo won the right to own the next generation of Palapa satellites, to be the sole rival of Indosat in the next 10 years and to offer mobile radio telephone services in the country.
