Shanghai Tang, so important in developing the Chinese look among haute couturiers, is softening its Chinese-inspired clothing designs. The goal is to make the clothing line more discreet, appealing, and marketable outside of China. The company is also looking to reduce its dependence upon its main store, based in Hong Kong.
