Shifting the balance of health care into the 21st century

Article Abstract:

Shifts in health care balance in Europe and in other countries are analyzed in relation to the coming of the next millenium. Majority of shifts in health care balance expected to take place in the 21st century are bold, rapid and significant. They all manifest powerful features of uncertainty, complexity and change. Some of the health care balance expected to be covered by the shifts include the balance between prevention and treatment, the balance between institutional and community care, and the balance between knowledge and habit based care.

Performance measurement criteria in health care organizations: review and future research directions

Article Abstract:

The performance measurement criteria for health care organizations are studied. It is shown that performance measurements involve the internal and external analysis of cost/financial status performance and quality performance. However, it is argued that there is a need to develop service quality and cost standards, and consider management strategies used by health care organizations during performance evaluations.

Hospital capacity management decisions: emphasis on cost control and quality enhancement

Using structural equation modeling, the relationship between several hospital performance and management decisions, taking cost control and quality improvement into consideration, is discussed.
