The case of Kathleen Saigol, who became bankrupt following a long-running dispute with a construction company over work on her flat in London, England, is discussed. The way in which such dispute can ruin an individual's life is considered.

Contractual love triangles are being repeated ad infinitum

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the use of various forms of contract in the UK construction industry are discussed. The JCT standard contract is compared with a 'one-stop' form of contract in which the contractor promises to assume responsibility for design, construction and management.

Issues are presented concerning the inclusion of litigation or arbitration clauses in JCT building contracts. The provision of the Arbitration Act of 1996 in cases where contracts are broken is discussed.
