Skoda Dopravni technika (SDT) (Plzen, Czech Republic), engineering firm, has a contract worth CEK 0.25 bil in the US. The firm has supplied the first five low-floor tramway cars to Portland, Oregon, the US, within the contract. The remaining tramway cars should be supplied by the end of Mar 2001. SDT should produce another three tramway cars for the city of Tacoma, Washington, the US. Besides, it will produce four tramway cars for the Czech Republic. SDT will supply eight reconstructed coach sets for the underground in Prague. The firm should commission a locomotive repair joint venture in Russia in 2001.

CEK 75 mil of the investment is intended for technology. The construction should be completed in 2003. The firm generates a turnover of CEK 130 mil per year. It has 43 employees. The consumers of the firm's products are Skoda Plzen (Plzen, Czech Republic), Skoda Auto (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), Bosch Diesel (Jihlava, Czech Republic) and VW Slovakia (Bratislava, Slovakia), among ohers.

Strojirny Poldi raises exports

Strojirny Poldi (SP) (Kladno, Czech Republic), engineering firm, increased its export volume by CEK 137 mil to CEK 368 mil in 2000 compared to 1999. PS exported nearly 75% of its production in 2000. The company's main consumers were Sis-Valmet (Finland), Liebher (Switzerland), BMW (Germany) and MAN (Germany) in 2000.
